Learn to Design your First 3D Printable Product: By Pekka Salokannel, Technical Designer in TinkerCAD
Pekka Salokannel gave a very practical talk showing the steps of how to create a 3D printable product through the TinkerCAD software, which is completely free and operates directly in your web browser. The idea behind this software is to empower people as much as possible by programming it to be quite user-friendly and easy to operate, allowing for freedom of design.
While going through all the steps until completion, Pekka also looked into the future advances of TinkerCAD in certain areas which are not yet developed – e.g. there is not yet an analytical tool integrated in the programme, which would inform the user whether it is possible for the product to get printed or not.
He also touched trends in innovation of materials, showing a tie he had made from aluminium and nylon (quite flexible and fabric-looking like!), and also described the difference between using powder-based materials and soft cabled plastic – the latter is fit for a home printer, while the powdered materials require big machines found in industrial ambient.
